Peritoneal Dialysis

Definition

In hemodialysis the blood vessels are connected to tubing which passes through a filter. In peritoneal dialysis, the body's own peritoneal lining is used as the membrane, and fluid is exchanged in and out of the abdomen. Reference NIDDK
